It is all about slipping on a shirt, slopping on your sunscreen and slapping on a hat. Top up your sunscreen regularly, especially when you’re sweaty or after swimming. Don’t just swim anywhere. Check the notice boards on the beaches, usually found in car parks near the patrolled areas. Try to always swim on patrolled beaches and be aware of stingers in the tropical waters. It can be safer to swim in the rivers and billabongs a little back from the coast.

Try Airlie Beach car rental

There is a place in Queensland that is still a bit of a secret to the tourists because it is off the beaten track. Airlie Beach is just north of the Sunshine Coast but is not too close to the main highway that everybody and their dogs drop in. Unless you knew what was there you could easily drive past which would be unfortunate because it is one of the nicest destinations that Queensland has to offer.

The beach at Airlie Beach is a calm water beach protected by the bay and the islands offshore but just around the corner you will find some very exceptional surf beaches where the waves will keep you entertained. There are several hotels that you can stay in as well as some nice back packer accommodation or you can bring your own caravan to stay for a while and enjoy the solitude of the town.

Our family like to catch a bus to Airlie Beach and then rent a car from the Airlie Beach car rental crowd so that we can tour around the local area. It makes good sense to travel cheap so that we can spend our hard earned money on other things that we enjoy rather than just the travel.
